THAILAND FLOATING MARKET, DAMNOEN SADUAK (half day)

TOUR DURATION 07.00 – 13.30

Demneonsaduak is a district in Ratchaburi province located to the southwest of Bangkok. King Rama IV of Bangkok directed the excavation of many small canals around the district, in order to satisfy the growing transportation needs of the local population.

Every morning, most villagers bring their products and commodities, including fruit from the orchards and vegetables from the plantations, to exchange with one another.

Thailand has come a long way over the years, and many things have changed; but, for many people, life remains essentially the same as it was years ago. Locals still row their boats laden with a wide variety of products, and even with souvenirs from their homes for sale, both to fellow Thais and to tourists. The Damneonsaduak Floating Market opens at 07.00 in the morning and closes at 11.00 A.M.

The tour begins in the early morning from the hotel in Bangkok, and it will take about two hours to reach the Floating Market. Along the way, we will pass some fascinating sites, and gain a greater understanding of Thai culture.

Among these are the salt production areas where villagers produce salt directly from sea water, and the market where the locals buy and sell fresh sea food, vegetables and sweets. If time allows, you will be able to stop and take photos of these activities before we arrive at the Floating Market.

Another interesting stop is a village where the people rely on coconut products for their livelihood. On the way to the dock, we will observe a demonstration of how brown sugar is produced from coconut sap, how coconut is squeezed from shredded coconut and how coconut oil is obtained.

The highlight of our trip begins as we leave our car, board a long-tailed boat and cruise along the network of small canals. The half-hour boat ride is exciting, breezy and very informative. Upon arriving at the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, you will have some free time to explore the market on your own, before returning by private car to your hotel in Bangkok.
